Livable Cities 2018

Researchers in sound and mobility studies and acoustic ecology met for Livable Cities 2018 as part of New Westminster’s Innovation Week 2018, where they shared perspectives on sound and urban space.

Dr. Milena Droumeva (SFU) gave a keynote discussing ways that sound studies can inform the ‘smart cities’ approach to design and problem-solving. Of note to urban planners and environmental envisioners: sound studies can offer new tools for inquisitive, holistic, and proactive approaches to environmental design, rather than reacting to noise as a problem side effect.

After the keynote there was a poster session, where I presented work on hearing spatial narratives in the Fraser Valley.
